Just Paranoia or the New Oceania?

Flashing back to the “Invest in Iraqi Dinars” post… Recently my mother called and asked me to lookup the exchange rate to see if the Dinars have gone up.
With all of the talk of government wiretapping she nervous about saying Iraq or Dinars over the phone and would only refer to it as “the foreign money”.
During the call I found it amusing and was teasing her about it, but later that day I got a little pissed.
My mother is a housewife, farmer, and on the side works for the Catholic church, yet this state of fear that the government has created with Threat Levels and Phone Tapping has her scared to say anything that my remotely be offensive to the government.
It’s freaking ridiculious… flashbacks of Orwell’s 1984 anyone?
