Testing My Inner Nerd

Weird Al has a great song out now called, White and Nerdy and while I never really considered myself nerdy the song does brings up a few incriminating references.

After hear the song a few times I thought I’d download the lyrics and turn it into a type of nerdiness test.

Here’s the tally (5 pts per question):

  1. Where you first in your class at MIT?
    • 1 – Didn’t go to school at MIT. However, I once drove to Boston with a couple of friends to go to MIT’s computer flee market.
  2. Are you a champion at D&D?
    • 0 – Never really craved a second life as a magical elf.
  3. Is your favorite MC is MC Escher?
    • 0 – No, but MC Escher’s art is pretty cool.
  4. Would you prefer Earl Grey tea over a 40oz container of beer?
    • 1 – No, but I do have loose leaf Earl Grey tea and drink it often.
  5. Do you prefer stationary rims over spinners?
    • 5 – I’ll stick with standard rims. I don’t have nothing wrong with spinners, except for spinner hub cabs… those are just sad.
  6. Do you collect action figures?
    • 0 – Absolutely not.
  7. Do you own any Steven Hawking books?
    • 5 – Yes I do, “A Brief History of Time”.
  8. Do you have a pimped out MySpace page?
    • 0 – MySpace sucks… I only use it to test the Flash widgets I’ve created.
  9. Do you know π (pi) to a thousand places?
    • 2 – I know pi to five places (3.14159), but the speed of light is still ingrained in my head (299,792,458 m/s).
  10. Do you still wear braces?
    • 0 – No, never have.
  11. Do you order all of your sandwiches with mayonnaise?
    • 3 – Not all of my sandwiches.
  12. Are you a whiz at Minesweeper and could you play for days?
    • 0 – I’ve never played Minesweeper.
  13. Are there any killer app you haven’t run?
    • 0 – Probably
  14. Are you proficient in Pascal?
    • 2 – Not any more, but I had to learn it for my AP Computer Science class in high school.
  15. Do you do vector calculus just for fun?
    • 0 – For fun… no.
  16. Do you own a soldering gun?
    • 0 – Nope.
  17. Is Happy Days your favorite theme song?
    • 0 – Hate it, but now it’s stuck in my head.
  18. Could you kick butt in a game of ping pong?
    • 1 – Probably not, does beer pong count?
  19. Can you ace any trivia quiz?
    • 4 – Not always, but I’m pretty good.
  20. Are you fluent in JavaScript?
    • 3 – I’m not a grand master, but I can use it for general functionality.
  21. Are you fluent in Klingon?
    • 0 – Nope.
  22. Would you ever own a Segway?
    • 0 – Not as long as my legs work… I’ll walk.
  23. Do you collect X-Men comic books?
    • 0 – Never owned a comic book.
  24. Do you wear a pocket protector?
    • 0 – Definitely not.
  25. Do you use an ergonomic keyboard?
    • 0 – I hate ergonomic keyboards, especially the curved ones with huge keys in the middle.
  26. Do you often shopping online for deals (especially for writable media)?
    • 3 – Not often, but I do shop online for deals.
  27. Do you edit Wikipedia?
    • 2 – I’ve never edited Wikipedia, but I have edited other Wikis.
  28. Have you memorized the Holy Grail and could you recite it right now?
    • 0 – While I thought the Holy Grail was funny, I did not memorize any of it.
  29. Do you know what ROTFLOL means?
    • 1 – I know what LOL stands for, but I had to look up the full acronym (thanks to Google and define:ROTFLOL).
  30. Do you own a business doing websites?
    • 5 – Yes. :)
  31. Have you ever made a homepage for your dog?
    • 0 – No, but my friend has a homepage for her dog. :)
  32. Do you own and wear a fanny pack?
    • 0 – Absolutely not.
  33. Do you shop at The Gap?
    • 0 – Nope.
  34. Have you ever spent a night getting freaky with a roll of bubble wrap?
    • 0 – While it sounds interesting… no.
  35. Have you ever been in the AV Club, Glee Club, or Chess Team?
    • 3 – Nope, but I was in 4-H, the Math and Theatre clubs, and sadly when I was in junior high my parents made me join the choirs (thankfully it was for only one year). In my defense I was also on the wrestling, football, and track teams. :)
  36. Have you ever pondered whether who is better, Captain Kirk or Captain Picard?
    • 3 – Never thought about it, but I do know the other Star Trek captains are Janeway, Sisko, and Archer.
  37. Do you spend every weekend at the Renaissance Fair?
    • 0 – Nope, turkey legs and meed really don’t do anything for me.
  38. Do you have your name on your underwear?
    • 0 – Hahaha… no.

Apparently I don’t meet Weird Al’s level of nerdiness:


44 pts / 190 pts = 23%

While I’m sure bonus points could be added for even attempting to measure one’s nerdiness, but this is one test I don’t mind not getting a 100 on.

In any case, a little bit of nerdiness can definitely be useful. :)
